Here at MenStylePower, we are focused on uplifting our men, encouraging them toward a personal style that truly represents who they are and mostly letting them know they have an army of women who champion them to be the best they can be. Our next magnificent lady, would have to be a master of the above. A motivational speaker, a woman of action, a powerful athlete and a mother of three, she represents the best in herself, her beliefs and her purpose in life. Which might I add…is severely contagious!
Elka Whalan dual Olympian silver medalist swimmer has jumped from the pool to the TV where she is seen as a presenter and commentator for CH 7 Sunrise and lifestyle shows. Wife and mother to three young children she has a passion to esteem women and motivate all.
Elka has recently launched a platform Queenhood: For the woman who knows her worth. Ambassador and motivational speaker, her enthusiasm and zest for life is intoxicating as she takes you on a journey into the Olympic village and behind the scenes of media. Vibrant and engaging Elka is a national figure aligned with well known brands.
We love how Elka speaks encouragement and purpose into a man’s life, as you’ll read below. And gentlemen, if you’ve got a sister or a friend who needs inspirational advice – then this post is for them also. Read on!
How’s your year been so far?
Full, fun and fantastic. We just moved into our house which is just so exciting. Now it is time for unpacking boxes, furnishing it and making it really ours. It’s such a delight to call a house your home! We have 3 children under 5 years. Our five year old just started school so this has been a wonderful transition and I’ve started a platform called Queenhood:For the woman who knows her worth! 2016 will be the year of business and building this new platform that I’ve had a passion for, for so many years. Lifting, encouraging and inspiring women to be a first rate and not a second rate someone else!
Any major highlights?
Queenhood coming to fruition is a bold step. For anyone starting a company it’s exciting, challenging, daunting and overwhelming but I’m up for the entire adventure. Podcast to be released later this year for women and a book in the works.
What song have you got on repeat at the moment?
Cheap Thrills by Sia! Such a relented artist!
What’s the most important thing about a guy’s style to you?
His ownership of it, the swagger he holds when he wears it. Not being afraid to include accessories or that edge. There are so many good looking men around that play it safe. Clothes represent a large part of who you are and how you wish to be perceived!
What advice do you have for a man in 2016?
Grow in character. There are a lot of “boys” still walking around in men’s bodies. I’d love to see men grow their character, their integrity, their value on what is important and what’s not. It doesn’t matter about their talent or popularity or how many followers they have on social media, if they don’t have the character to go with it then it won’t grow to be a fruitful source.
How important is a man’s character to you?
Almost everything. You see reputation is how others think you are and character is WHO you are. What you’re doing when no one is watching. Are you accountable?, faithful?, honest? Do you still open doors for ladies and not swear. These are all qualities I still see are missing greatly in the modern man.
What’s the one thing you never want to see a guy doing?
Swearing in front of a lady or a young child and of course no hitting!
Worst dating experience you’ve had?
Cannot even recall have been happily married to my best friend and an incredible husband and father Thomas Whalan for nearly 8 years! We have date night every Friday and I still look forward to it each week.
Best encouragement for a guy?
Men love being lifted up as much as women so always offer them words of affirmation, encourage them and tell them what they are talented and gifted in!
Most romantic thing a guy has ever done for you?
Thomas once delivered a beautiful bunch of flowers on a random day and the card read “For no reason and every reason” it still melts me.
Who’s the most stylish man on the planet for you right now?
Hmmmm I’m really stumped on this. David Beckman never puts a foot wrong with his outfits, certainly not my type but does dress well!
The Minimalist Beckham
Is Chivalry dead?
It’s not dead but certainly lacking! We need to bring it back out into the light.
