Sometimes a little guidance from the opposite sex isn’t such a bad idea, especially when it comes to fashion. For our latest Best Of The Web guide we chat to blogger and writer Louise Edmonds, who dishes out all the best advice on her blog MenStylePower, on how to be suave and sophisticated. The site has advice on everything from styling military wear, to ways to be confident in your own style.
How’s your year been so far? Any major highlights?
In my line of work, the year has shown incredible growth. From receiving investment for a new division of MenStylePower to being head-hunted to write for credible media publications; I certainly can’t complain. On the home front, I have just moved into a new apartment so my little family (hubby and 3 years old) have a sensational view of the metropolitan golf course. But for me, I have no time to put my feet up.
What song have you got on repeat at the moment?
Any parent will understand this answer: “Let it Go” by Frozen. And it isn’t the original song; it’s my daughter singing the best she can, the loudest she can, yet out of key. Delicious!
When it gets close to Christmas, I actually become quite nostalgic. I automatically want to listen to songs from the past. George Michael, Prince, Carleen Anderson, Vinx, Soul 2 Soul, Simple Minds, Tears for Fears. I want to go back to the Christmas’s I remember growing up near the beach. And this was the music.
What’s the most important thing about a guy’s style to you?
So much of it is important. It’s my daily life! Being a stylist and journalist purely interrogating men’s style and fashion, I see so many elements of men’s style that are integral to their confidence, success and purpose. So it is many elements that need to be narrowed down to each individual’s palette.
What fashion advice do you have for a man?
I would tell him to follow his individual style and really concentrate on the ‘fit’. Invest in a tailor. Only buy quality and seek your personal archetype which will then release your true inner style.
1 tip to grow your Instagram account
Be consistent. And always be true to your brand identity, as this will be the unique selling point of your account.
What’s the one thing you never want to see a guy wearing?
Just one? (giggle) Okay, so I would say, I don’t want to see a guy wear items that are too effeminate.
Worst dating experience you’ve had?
Geez, that would be a while ago as I’ve been married for five years now. Worst, okay – so I’m at this swanky restaurant with a head cold, committed to a date as I didn’t want to let this person down. I’m so ill, he says to me that I need to go and freshen up as my eyes were red. Instead of appreciating my efforts, he started to talk me down. So I politely stood up, thanked him for the night, and walked out.
Any major plans for the rest of 2015?
I’ll be continuing to unpack boxes, set up Christmas decorations and work on investment documents for my business. Major plans after unpacking? A visit to the Chiropractor.
Who’s the most stylish man on the planet for you right now?
I love Jared Leto. I mean his hair needs its own Twitter Account. He’s just so sexy, yet peppered with a sense of mystery. Divine.
