Our mate, Ben, (dapper dude in Pink shirt above) is the ultimate Thrift shopper so we’ve given him his own category and contribution space.
Welcome Ben to the MenStylePower Team! (A little more about him on our Staff Pages).
On interrogating him on how he does it, shop for bargains and comes out of the Thrift stores looking a million bucks… he seems so nonchalant about it all. Like Fred Astaire, who made dancing look cool and effortless. Like Federer who makes Tennis look elegant. Like style bargain-hunting, where Ben makes the chore look oh so easy!
Over a beer the other day in Glebe, we spoke of life, traveling and fashion. Then comes an email parading his $4 Gant chinos that he found in a Thrift Store. Blows my mind.
The Gant Rugger
Summer Chino in Light Blue Resurrected sportswear line from the 1950s, Gant turns the elements from its classic origins and fuses them with updated modern details for today’s man. Re-launched under the creative of Swedish designer, Christopher Bastin, this line re-invents quintessential American prep with European sophistication for a look that is uniquely above the curve.
97% cotton 3% elastane. 16″ in the knee narrows to 15″ at the leg opening. Front slant pockets. Back flap and welt pockets. Cuffed hem.
$165 retail and Ben paid $4 at the red cross – go figure! He found two pairs on eBay which were listed for $49 and $69.
