6 Daily Habits That Will Increase Your Life Expectancy

If there is a universal fact we can all agree on, it’s this one: we all want to live a long, happy, and fulfilling life. We want to make our dreams happen, meet that wonderful person, and you know what – quite frankly, stay sexy. There is nothing wrong with that. But we need to make a serious effort each day to not only feel great but also genuinely increase our life expectancy,

Therefore, no matter what you want to do with your life, it’s important that you follow these six daily habits to increase your life expectancy and get ready to live each day to the fullest.

Wake up positive and stay that way throughout the day

It sounds cheesy, but your perception has the ability to change your life – literally (it’s okay if you cringed a little too). On average, people with positive attitudes’’s just that keeping an optimistic head on your shoulders keeps you grateful, grounded, and motivated to accomplish your goals.

Never sacrifice your beauty, Ahem…‘handsome’ sleep

Sleep deprivation is not a game. Did you know that sleep, especially REM sleep is one of the most important parts of sleep? During REM sleep, our body restores itself and promotes the re-optimization of our internal organs. Also, our metabolism takes a serious hit when we don’t sleep. We don’t function properly nor feel our best without sleep either. Even if it didn’t increase life expectancy, wouldn’t you still choose to sleep because it makes you feel refreshed and alive?

Find time to become one with yourself

Or in other words – meditate, relax, decompress, etc. Stress is one of the main causes of short life expectancies. With all that cortisol pumping through your system and keeping you on a constant “fight” response, it’s no wonder that so many people suffer cardiovascular problems. It isn’t necessarily that stress itself will make you stressed; it’s how you handle stress that determines the quality and length of your life. Therefore, it’s important to remember that while you can pile on the productive work and hustle till dawn every day, it’s better to set aside even just five minutes daily to solely focus on yourself and come back to a zen place.

Everyone has heard this tip a thousand times, but it will always be true. Being conscious about the food you eat and staying active will improve not just your life expectancy but your general disposition, emotions, and body image. If you feel prime in the inside, it reflects on the outside as well. Therefore, embrace the plant food and opt for grass-fed meat the next time you’re perusing the grocery store.

Floss (Yes, you read that right)

man floss

Like everyone else, I know that moment of feeling you can skip one more day of flossing. Yeah, let’s all stop doing that. Not only does flossing keep our pearly whites shining bright like a diamond, but it also prevents us from developing gum and heart disease. This next part is gross: the bacteria that festers in between our teeth when we don’t floss seeps into our bloodstream and goes straight to our arteries. We’re more at risk for clogged arteries and heart problems when we don’t floss. Yikes!

Quit drinking and smoking

If you care about keeping another decade of your life, put down the bottle of beer or cigarette. Drinking and smoking excessively puts us at risk of premature death. Furthermore, smoking makes us smell bad and causes cancer and drinking too much destroys our liver. We aren’t cool when we smoke and drink all the time. We’re really just setting ourselves up for a ton of organ problems.
